On Sunday at the China Open in Beijing, wild card Qinwen Zheng beat No. 4 seed Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in 1 hour and 43 minutes. She became the first Chinese woman to win the Beijing WTA 1000 title.

Andreeva broke for 2-0 in the opening set before Zheng recovered. Zheng saved three set points in the 10th game and won the final 11 points of the set. She broke late in the second set to seal her first WTA 1000 crown and her first tour title since Tokyo in late 2024.

The win sends Zheng back toward the top 30 from No. 54 after she dropped to No. 160 midseason. She is the first wildcard champion since the 2004 reinauguration and the lowest-ranked winner in that span. Andreeva still climbs to a career-high World No. 3 despite the loss.

At the Rolex Shanghai Masters, No. 1 Alexander Zverev edged Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-3 in 2 hours and 17 minutes. The victory was Zverev's 60th on tour in 2026. He broke early in the first and third sets and survived a second-set tiebreak after missing two match points.

Arthur Gea upset No. 3 Ben Shelton 7-6(5), 7-6(3) in 2 hours and 7 minutes in his first Masters 1000 main draw. Gea earned his first Top 10 win and will face Jakub Mensik next after Mensik beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

No. 25 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina outlasted No. 7 Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(6) on Stadium Court. Hubert Hurkacz rallied past wild card Yi Zhou 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in round-of-32 action.

Monday brings round-of-32 singles at the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Stadium Court starts at 12 p.m. local with Pablo Carreno Busta against No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas against No. 11 Taylor Fritz.

Not before 6 p.m., Zizou Bergs meets No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 15 Tommy Paul faces defending champion No. 17 Valentin Vacherot. Grandstand 2 also opens at 12 p.m. with No. 14 Learner Tien against No. 20 Casper Ruud, Jiri Lehecka against No. 12 Rafael Jodar, No. 5 Daniil Medvedev against qualifier Dalibor Svrcina, and No. 8 Arthur Fils against Botic van de Zandschulp.

The Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open starts Monday with first-round singles from 11 a.m. local. Center Court opens with Ekaterina Alexandrova against Leylah Fernandez, while Maria Sakkari meets Donna Vekic and Jasmine Paolini faces Sara Bejlek on the day-one card.
