The team championship

Sixty-four teams are selected. The first two rounds are single elimination at campus sites, four teams at a site. The winner of each site plays a super regional. Eight teams then meet for the championship.

The 2025–26 pilot keeps that team event in the spring. Singles and doubles are played in the fall, from the Tuesday through the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The pilot covers the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons.

A dual match

Three doubles matches are played first, as six-game sets, and they are worth one team point together. Six singles matches follow, each worth one team point, and each is best of three sets. No-ad scoring is used. At 6–6, a seven-point tie-break is played.

The team that wins four points advances. Once that total is reached, the remaining matches stop. During the championship, doubles also stops once that one point is decided.
